Season 3, Game 9:at Duke University

Wetzel (Senior halfback #47) executes
the Halfback Option Pass.
Milwaukee College Penguins (6-2, #35) at Duke University Blue Devils (1-7, #86)

I grew up in Jersey City which is the home of the St. Anthony Friars high school basketball team. That team consistently ranks tops in the nation, largely because of the excellent coaching and recruiting. The head coach is none other than "Coach" Hurley, father of Bobby and Danny Hurley; the former made it to the NBA as a guard for the Sacramento Kings. Bobby was also instrumental in some of the Duke University championship basketball teams.

The reason I mention this is that my pal, Dallas DeLuca, did not get accepted to Duke University the same year that Bobby Hurley got a scholarship to attend.

That was, what?, a brazilian ages ago and I'm still holding a grudge? For something that didn't even happen to me? NAW!!!

Root (QB #5) throws an INT in her first play of the game, which basically spots the Blue Devils seven points. No need to get worried, though. But when Root throws ANOTHER interception to start the 2nd quarter, which Duke converts later to seven more points, as a coach, you kind of have to start yelling. In football, yelling is a tried-and-true tactic. Of course, yelling, more often than not, does absolutely nothing.

Luckily, it worked this time: we tie it up at the half, and proceed to outscore them 42 to 7 in the second half. (pause) That's right, we score SIX touchdowns in second half, including an incredible halfback option play. There, Root hands it off to Wetzel (HB #47) who makes the decision to throw it to Foldy (FB #29) in the left side of the end zone. We've never even *practiced* that play.
